Sugar High
My phone bit it last night, so today I took a trip to the mall with Baby. I’m still kind of awkward in public with her. I was rocking the front facing Bjorn carry made famous by Zach Galifianakis in The Hangover. It’s hard being this good looking AND having such a cute baby. I try not to make eye contact, as that would just seem boastful. When I pass people and they say, “Oh!...

This may hurt a bit
We’re acting like it’s a normal day, but it’s not. In five hours Mommy leaves on a business trip. She will be gone ‘til Friday, then leaves again next Sunday for another week. There is even a possibility that she will have another trip the week after that. On a positive note, I can almost feel Winter’s grip loosening. Days seem brighter and longer. By the time...

http://www.buzzfeed.com/svoip/11-year-old-girl-skateboarder-4y59 Everyone I know brings up the same question about my daughter: When is she going to start skating? I really don’t want her to, which means she probably will. I cringe at the thought of her skateboarding. I know how much it hurts.

Consequence of being a stay at home parent
Dealing with door to door sales people. Door to door sales people infuriate me. I’m guessing over half the ones we receive are roofing scams. It has gotten to the point where I just quickly cut them off and say, “We’re not interested.” then they give me a dirty look like, how rude of me for interrupting them. The irony is palpable.

Boot Camp Field Notes
When we were expecting we took every class regarding birthing and childcare offered by our care provider. Well, I didn’t take breastfeeding and Mommy was not allowed to take Daddy Boot Camp. While I found Daddy Boot Camp lacking in the information department, it was a great forum to share my worries and fears about becoming a father. Every month I receive follow-up newsletters called...

Part of the process
I started this blog for two reasons: to have a place where I could document the early years of my child; and to start a new hobby, writing. It should not be surprising to any of my followers that I have no idea what I’m doing regarding both parenting and writing. I do not have a college degree and I am the youngest in a family of six. I simply do the best I can and try to enjoy it. Last...

The dog
My dog is named James. James is a girl. Don’t judge! James is a ten year old, purebred Toy Fox Terrier. So, she’s small. Insert manhood joke here. I have taken heaps of crap over my dog James. I love James. James was free. Three months before 9/11 my former life wrecker girlfriend set up an appointment to get James from a breeder in Palm Springs. At the time, I was...

"Hard" rears its ugly head
It’s 4am. I haven’t slept. Baby has a fever of 104. Edit: 5:15am. Mommy is taking over, even though I honestly believe I could stay awake forever, if that’s what was required of me.

Groan
As expected, we woke up to more snow. Thanks for everyone’s suggestions yesterday! We ended up taking a trip to a bouji toy store to buy bubbles. The young clerks quickly fell under Baby’s Aveno scented spell. They were bustling around the store picking out things for Baby to try. “We’re really just here to buy bubbles.” Then they looked at me like I cut one. ...

Cabin Fever
When Mommy got pregnant I knew the first six month were going to be really hard. Not just because raising an infant is hard, but because the first six months would be during winter. Today there is over a foot of snow everywhere, with more expected to fall. Mommy is working and Baby and I are really bored. Coming up with activities for us to do has been tough in the last couple months. For...

I'm supposed to be the funny one!
Ok, I have a confession to make. I’m a little jealous of the breezy, gigglly banter shared by Mommy and Baby. My wife is awesome, but comedy is not quite her forte. That’s not to say she’s not funny, she can bust me up on the regular. She is, however, that person that will try to tell a joke and just before the punchline say, “No wait,” and then laugh to her self and...

Stupid bat shit crazies in the middle of the night
Is it called 4 month wakeful because it happens at four months, or because it lasts four months? Or both? Because she’s five months now, and if this lasts much longer I may take her back. Where the fuck is that receipt?

martiniqueeny asked: I love your blog. The humidifier idea- GENIUS. The skate park- SO CUTE! I think being a stay at home dad is the sweetest most special thing in the world ESPECIALLY for a daughter. She is adorable. Your wife and baby are very lucky to have you! I am finishing school right now and once that is done my husband will be a SAHD. I hope he is half as great as you are. I look forward to reading more of...

Level Up!
For the first time since becoming a SAHD, I feel I have a parenting oriented tip worthy of a post! But, Dad Said… tip#001 Strategic Humidifier Placement Aim one humidifier head towards a house plant, the other towards the bag of wipes. If you choose a neglect friendly plant, you won’t have to water it again.  Having a large houseplant in the nursery just makes good common sense to...

Beautiful Day
62 degrees today! I’ve been feeling bad about not getting out with the baby due to the cold weather. So, today we made up for it by walking (almost) to the library, then sweeping the backyard deck. I’ve been using a great baby carrier I got from my mother called Lillie Baby. It’s basically a souped up bijorn. I tried a Moby Wrap but found it frustrating, awkward, and...

Four Month Wakeful Period?
Wow! The term, “Four month wakeful period,” does not come close to preparing one for what it really is. It sounds so peaceful… Ah… Wakeful. Buttercups and rainbows on a lolipop trail. Last night I got my first taste this developmental phenomenon, and I’m suggesting we change the name to, “4 Month Bat Shit Crazy In The Middle Of The Night Period.” ...

Bad Baby Etiquette
With Mommy back in town things are quickly getting back to normal. She had a quick (three day) business trip. Aside from Baby having a lot of trouble falling asleep on the first night, things went rather smoothly. On Friday a friend came over for dinner. He’s a great guy and a close friend, but man he has bad baby etiquette. He’s in his early thirties and childless, so I...

I'm pretty sure...
It’s not technically considered “eating” if the food only goes from the spoon, to your mouth, out to your face, and then back to the spoon. Also, when they said to start you off with rice cereal, I thought they meant the snap, crackle, pop kind.

Not like Disney Goofy, or silly goofy. She’s right leg dominant/forward goofy. Which reminds me I need to start signing up for HGTV dream home. This year it’s in Park City, UT.

Nightmare
Last night I dreamt I lost my baby at a baseball game. Well, she wasn’t a baby she, was about three years old. It was just like in the movies, where they see the back of the person they’re looking for, run up to them, only to find that when they turn it’s not the person they were looking for. Sprinting around frantically I searched. I could feel my heart rate elevated, even...

Make my day
Following this story out of OK, where a young Mom shot and killed one of two home invaders. Super scary stuff! It is actually a topic I have been thinking about much more now that I am a Father. While I have always been pro-gun control, it’s stories like this that prey on my fears of not being able to protect my family if an instance such as this were to arise. More and more, I’m...

Awesome!
So, I guess that paper ripping=baby laughing thing is universal? We have been trying to get the baby (4 months) to laugh regularly. We tried raspberries, which sort of worked. But, the ripping paper thing REALLY works! So awesome! Now if I could just get a video where baby is laughing harder than we are.

We survived the mall
Ventured out to the mall today. Mommy wanted to get a family portrait done, as we had a coupon, and I had a gift to return. The traffic around the mall was intense. We got a parking spot that would normally be a terrible spot, but today, being that it was the only spot, it was a great spot! Thankfully, I was pushing a stroller and the herds parted before me. I may take a stroller to the mall...
